Limiting fish farming

  • Restricting fish farming
  • Limiting aquaculture

Context

Ecologists and development experts complain about the strain that shrimp farming puts on rice production in poor countries such as Bangladesh, Pakistan and India. The land for shrimp is usually taken from that previously used for rice paddies; the crustaceans are exported for the profit of a few dealers, leaving the growing population with less land to grow food.
