Increasing public participation in environmental management

Public participation in environmental management can be improved by: a) making environmental education an integral part of the standard educational curriculum; b) including regional and global issues and perspectives in environmental education syllabi; c) expanding public awareness and education programmes to target more groups in society, especially engineers and economists; d) improving access to environmental information; and e) encouraging the media to devote as much attention to environmental issues as they do to crime, politics, sport and finance.
