Increasing international cooperation on research on biotechnology

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

Agenda 21 recommends further enhancement of global and regional collaboration for basic and applied biotechnology research and development and full utilization of existing national and regional facilities. Institutions which already exist in some countries should be made use of for training purposes and joint research projects.
