Including interests of coastal peoples in fisheries development strategies
Implementation
This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.
Agenda 21 recommends that the special needs and interests of small-scale artisanal fisheries, local communities and indigenous people in meeting human nutritional and other development needs should be taken into account when implementing strategies for the sustainable use of marine living resources.
