Housing periodical literature

Until recently, monographs used to account for at least half the acquisitions budget of most research libraries. During the late 1990s, the proportion of acquisitions budget going to periodicals had risen to around 70 to 80 percent. This is balanced by a decline in the purchase of monographs.
