Graffiti

  • Wall-writing
  • Revolutionary slogan writing

Description

Writing slogans on walls as a media for propaganda, or leaving drawings and symbols associated with a movement.

Context

Revolutionary movements have long used walls for communication. There is evidence of such use in imperial Rome by the Christians.

Implementation

Examples of this are the student revolts of France, USA and elsewhere in 1968, Latin American election campaigns and poster campaigns in China.

Claim

Wall writings are often witty, original ways to express the spirit and philosophy of a revolutionary movement.

Counter-claim

Graffiti vandalizes property by assuming non-owners have a right to proclaim ideologies upon any convenient surface.
