In 2001, the US Vice President announced his government's intended policy to increase development of fossil fuels for electricity generation to meet the country's needs for growth and to accelerate the building of power plants, powered by nuclear or fossil fuels, to a rate of one new electricity-generating plant a week for 20 years.
