Fighting against antisemitism

November 9th is International Day against Fascism and Antisemitism. In 1938, 9 November was the date of the "Kristallnacht" pogrom in Nazi Germany. It marked the beginning of the Holocaust. At European level, commemorations of November 9th have taken place since the 50th anniversary in 1988. The commemoration has taken on a new meaning against the rise of neo-nazism and racism in Europe. In 1994 (Protection of Roma) and 1995 (Persecution of Refugees), the November 9th campaigns of the European Network Against Nationalism, Racism, Fascism and in Support of Migrants and Refugees (UNITED) were extremely successful, uniting thousands of people against fascism and antisemitism in hundreds of actions across more than 30 European countries. In 1996 the focus was 'Violence against Minorities'.
