Establishing vehicle-free zones
- Banning vehicles
Implementation
Starting in April 1995, an experimental three month trial banned vehicles from the heart of Athens, Greece, from 8 am to 8 pm, effectively turning an area of about two square kilometers into a vehicle-free zone to ease the chronic air pollution and traffic jams that plague the city. If the ban proves successful, it could become permanent and extended.
