Developing system of information networks

  • Constructing distributed information system

Description

Developing an information system of relatively independent subsystems which are, however, tied together within the organizational framework by communication interfaces. This system of information systems is a network of subsystems located at, and adapted to, areas of need. In such a network, three basic conditions will exist: some of the subsystems will need to interact with other subsystems; some will need to share files with others and even share data processing facilities; and some subsystems will require very little interaction with other subsystems, and for all purposes will be fairly isolated and self-sufficient.

Implementation

Internet, the electronic information network, is a distributed information system with numerous separate nodes and subsystems, independent linkages and function sharing.

Claim

Whereas an integrated information system is monolithic in nature utilizing a central data processing facility with a common data base; a distributed system is modular and employs an aggregation of information systems arranged as a network.
