Developing ecological golf courses
- Creating environmentally compatible recreation areas
Implementation
The Squaw Creek golf course in Squaw Valley, California, has been certified as a"cooperative sanctuary" by the Audubon Society. Construction of the golf course restored acres of native grasslands and enhanced natural filtration ponds. Golfers use boardwalks to carry them over marsh and meadow areas. A gold course located in an abandoned gravel quarry in Scituate, Massachusetts, has created an attractive drought-resistance landscape from an eyesore of offroad bike trails and rubbish dumps. Ecologically sensitive golfcourses have also been implemented, near Frankfurt am Main and elsewhere in Europe. At Findhorn, Scotland. are "Fairways to Heaven", linking the ecological and spiritual aspects of golf.
