Coordinating sectoral programmes for management of coastal zones

  • Integrating sectoral programmes for coastal management

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends that sectoral programmes should be coordinated while at the same time building capacity. Agenda 21 also recommends the integration of sectoral programmes on sustainable development for settlements, agriculture, tourism, fishing, ports and industries affecting the coastal area.
