Confronting fossil fuel addiction

Claim

The Kyoto Protocol, with its focus on incremental emissions reductions, fails to address the fundamental problem of our global fossil fuel addiction. In order to halt climate change, we must address society's addiction to fossil fuels. Fossil fuel production has destructive consequences at ever stage, from extraction to atmospheric pollution. A long term solution to the climate change problem will require a global transition out of fossil fuels. If we want to protect public health, maintain biological and cultural diversity, and stabilize the global climate, we must kick the fossil fuel habit.
