Cleaning up dog excrement from pavements

  • Removing dog's mess from urban environments

Implementation

In response to a school social inventions workshop, 11-year-olds in the Paddington area of London set up a Pooper Scooper Action Squad, using their seaside spades to clear the streets around the school, followed by placard demonstrations and pressure of the local council. This lead to the first import to the UK of a motorbike from Paris that goes up on the pavement to suck up dog's faeces with a vacuum cleaner. Various devices designed to be used by dog owners enable single deposits to be neatly scooped up and disposed of in rubbish bins. Another invention suitable for municipal installation is an odour-free, biodegradable dog toilet developed by an inventor from Liege.
