Assessing costs and financing to manage demographic change

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

Research and dissemination of results under Agenda 21 in this area will require US$ 10 million annually from international sources. It should be adequately financed taking into account the role of existing agencies in this field.
