Armed neutrality

Description

Maintaining military preparedness while declaring a state of neutrality by a power or group of powers. This strategy is used to defend maritime trade on the sea from belligerent countries with the aid of armed forces.

Context

The former USSR in the 1780's used this armed neutrality to maintain trade with North American colonies rebelling against Britain.
