Adopting moratorium on genetic applications
- Banning genetic applications
Claim
Biogenetic technologies are now at the point where nuclear and chemical technologies were earlier in the century, that is on the optimistic brink of seemingly fabulous opportunities, but without any specific framework or foresight for avoiding the accompanying dangers. The current momentum of genetic research and their lucrative commercial applications may outstrip caution and safety considerations. For these reasons, it would be wise to back a moratorium on certain "questionable" commercial applications of biogenetic experimentation.
