Achieving better functioning and transparency of commodity markets

The aim is for the international community to find ways of achieving better functioning and enhanced transparency of commodity markets and greater diversification of the commodity sector in developing economies, within a macroeconomic framework that takes into consideration a country's economic structure, resource endowments and market opportunities; and better management of natural resources, taking into account the necessities of sustainable development.

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.
