Accommodating gypsies
- Welcoming caravanning travellers
Implementation
Belgium says it want to make gypsies more welcome. Whilst Flanders has 27 public sites, with water and sewage connections for caravans, the Brussels region has no authorized stopping places for travellers. Gypsies frequently stop illegally on private property near the canals in the northern and western parts of the capital. In an attempt to accommodate the gypsies without creating conflicts with local residents, a survey is being undertaken of disused industrial spaces which could be transformed into camping grounds.
