Nature
Habitat destruction and fragmentation are the greatest threat to Pan troglodytes. Persecution from humans for capture and as 'bush meat' is also a threat.
Background
Most eastern chimpanzees are thought to live in eastern Zaïre. However, the subspecies is also to be found in the western forests of Uganda and Tanzania, with a few small scattered groups in Rwanda, Burundi, and Sudan.
Incidence
Pan troglodytes schweinfurthi is considered as "Endangered" by the IUCN. Pan troglodytes is listed as "Appendix 2".
