"Harpyhaliaetus coronatus" occurs at densities too low to be certain that any decline has occurred, but large areas within its range have suffered conversion of habitat, and hunting has certainly affected it in Brazil.
Background
"Harpyhaliaetus coronatus" extends over a very large area of open grassland and scrub in central and southern South America. In Brazil from Maranhao and Bahia south through Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, Goias, Distro Federal, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Parana and Santa Catarina into Rio Grande do Sul. In Bolivia in Beniand Santa Cruz. Uruguay, a few records. In Paraguay in Chaco and Region Oriental and in Argentina from Jujuy south to southern Buenos Aires and Neuquen.
Incidence
The crowned solitary eagle is listed as "Vulnerable" by the IUCN Red List. CITES lists the species as "Appendix 2".
