Threatened species of Gorilla gorilla graueri

  • Threatened species of Grauer's gorilla
  • Endangered eastern lowland gorilla

Incidence

Eastern lowland gorillas have a very limited range and small population and are found only in eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. In 1980, one population was estimated to number 3,000-5,000 individuals; the full range of this subspecies is not established and it may comprise over 10,000 individuals. They are threatened by a variety of pressures, including hunting for "bush meat".
