Hybridization is a threat to the Scottish wild cat, as many as 80 percent are hybridized with the domestic cat.

The Scottish wild cat is limited to less than 5000 square kilometers in northern Scotland, as its habitat becomes fragmented. Road kills and vulnerability to diseases transmitted by feral cats are other threats to Felis silvestris grampia.
