Threatened species of Falconidae
- Threatened species of Caracaras
- Threatened species of Falcons
Background
The family Falconidae includes about sixty species of true falcons (genus Falco), along with several related birds, some similar to falcons, others not so similar. The best known member of the family is probably the peregrine falcon, which is native to every continent but Antarctica. The gyrfalcon and merlin occur in both Eurasia and North America. The prairie falcon and American kestrel occur only in North America, while the aplomado falcon ranges from South America into the southwestern United States. The bat falcon and orange-breasted falcons are also listed as inhabiting North America. Most remaining falcons are native to the Old World or oceanic islands.
