Squeamishness

  • Over-fastidiousness

Nature

Many individuals are easily nauseated, disgusted or offended. They cannot bear the sight of blood, bodily fluids, wounds, maimed persons, the diseased and their symptoms, dead bodies, dead animals, surgical operations, and the like. They may be offended by the sights of copulating animals, humans displaying affection, and lovemaking. They may be unable to tolerate descriptions of these activities, and if these are expressed by disadvantaged classes in the vernacular, they are repelled. In a world which requires health care, social services, scientific investigation of human behaviour, and informed discussion on world problems, squeamishness is a hindrance.
