1. World problems
  2. Silence about illness

Silence about illness

  • Failure to admit sickness
  • Suppression of diagnosis
  • Cover-up of ill health

Claim

From an HIV-positive: Lack of responsibility is a direct cause of the spread of AIDS. Most HIV-positive people, regardless of social standing, do not reveal their HIV-positive status to sexual partners, even in long-term committed relationships. This silence is encouraged by society and even by gay men's health groups. The emphasis has been placed on how to help the victim feel comfortable, rather than on his responsibility to society at large.
