Nature
CG is primarily a pulmonary toxicant leading to injury of the respiratory tract and suffocation. Initially the effect of this agent is similar to tear gas with subsequent pulmonary edema developing approximately 4 hours after exposure; it is also no longer considered a major threat.
Phosgene (CG) should not be confused with phosgene oxime (CX), which is a blister agent.
