Outdated labour negotiation procedures

Nature

When they occur at all, employer-employee negotiations on working conditions, wages and definition of areas of responsibility are bound to 19th century labour union patterns, which operate on the basis of power confrontation rather than on an understanding of mutual responsibility. This confrontation mode ultimately leads to a defence of self interest and the perpetuation of the status quo. Another aspect of this problem is that even these outmoded negotiation methods are mainly limited to western blue-collar workers.
