Nostalgia

Tragic and burdensome occurrences with which old people have been unable to deal in the past are blotted out of their memories so that only the good and the happy occasions are remembered in a romantic image, leading to a denial of the tragic dimension both in the past and in the present. This rejection of the tragic has led all generations to draw their meanings of life from romantic images and to avoid the tragedies which confront them.
