Misapplication of principles to oppose social innovation

Every public health measure, from clean water, to immunization and the introduction of the breath testing for alcohol, has been fought in the name of liberty, before being recognized as a useful or necessary aid to public health. Frequently the opposition has come from those with a pecuniary interest in maintaining the status quo, but also from those who oppose any implication that their lifestyles are deficient in any way.
