Manslaughter

Nature

Manslaughter can be divided into two categories: reckless and voluntary. Reckless manslaughter is causing the death of another person by consciously and unjustifiably disregarding the risk while engaging in dangerous behaviour. Voluntary manslaughter is causing the death of another person under circumstances which would be considered murder, except the death is caused under extreme emotional disturbance for which there is a reasonable excuse. Someone so disturbed by his sister being verbally attacked that he strikes and causes the death the person doing the taunting could be considered guilty of voluntary manslaughter. A person so upset by the politics of a city mayor that he assassinates him is not guilty of voluntary manslaughter but of murder.
