Lack of synergy between biodiversity and other development strategies

Development projects often focus solely on economic aspects and as a consequence often undermine strategies aimed at improving or protecting biodiversity. Projects that develop infrastructure and trade policies, for instance, Intellectual Property Rights and the use of genetically engineered crops are a threat to biodiversity and undermine the Convention on Biological Diversity.
