Illicit use of ketamine
- Abuse of special-K
Nature
Ketamine is an anaesthetic approved primarily for veterinary use but is also used in human surgeries. The brand names include Vetalar and Ketaset. It produces effects similar to those of PCP or LSD. A user will either snort or swallow the drug as a powder or swallow or inject it into muscle as a liquid. Use of ketamine has been reported at teen "rave" parties. Women looking to buy ecstasy in nightclubs have been deliberately given ketamine instead.
