Foolhardiness

Claim

Foolhardiness is a vice opposed to the virtue of fortitude by way of excess. It does not moderate the passions of fear and daring, thus is likely to attack unnecessarily, immoderately, and unreasonably. Foolhardiness may be caused by presumption, as when someone overestimates his own powers to repel evil; by anger, which can lead to unnecessary violence or punishment; or by vainglory.
