Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD) starts in childhood to early teen years with symptoms of weakness and wasting of shoulder, upper arm and shin muscles. Joint deformities are common. The disease usually progresses slowly. Frequent cardiac complications are common.
