Discrimination against children
- Harassment of children in public life
- Prejudicial treatment of children by authorities
Nature
Children in many countries are subjected to interrogation usually with respect to activities (alleged or substantiated) of their parents, and suffer subsequent emotional disturbance. They include children of prisoners, activists and those deemed 'enemies of the state'.
Incidence
The children of refuseniks (Soviet Jews whose applications to emigrate have been turned down by Soviet authorities) are subject to constant discrimination and harassment. It has been reported that the KGB has raided the Moscow Jewish Kindergarten several times, terrorizing the children. In elementary school, children may be called into the principal's office, sometimes in the presence of their parents, and asked to denounce their parents; they are told that their parents are criminals.
Claim
The real prejudice is against children as people; not against their shapes but against their minds.
