Denial of rights to wounded military personnel
- Refusal of payment of veterans' health costs
- Non-payment of soldiers' medical bills
- Inadequate war injury benefits
- Insufficient war disability treatment
Nature
Up until 1994, the American Veterans Affairs department denied disability payments to veterans of the Korean War suffering late after-effects of frostbite on the grounds that they could not prove that they had suffered the frostbite during active service on the Choisin Reservoir, where temperatures in 1950 were around minus 36 degrees C.
Incidence
18,000 American troops were stationed on the Choisin reservoir, and nearly all were known to have suffered frostbite.
