  2. Biased recall

Biased recall

  • Distorted memory of past events
  • Unreliability of memory
  • Incorrect memories
  • False memories

Nature

Memories are distorted by the peak experience of any episode – whether good or bad – and what it felt like when the experience stopped. Thus, memory will rank a short and relatively painless operation which ends on a painful note as worse than an operation which ends on a painless note, even if it lasted longer and was overall more painful.
