Asphyxia of newborn

  • Apnoea of newborn
  • Imperfect lung aeration
  • Respiratory paralysis of newborn
  • Blue newborn
  • Asphyxia pallida

Nature

From 1972, prolonged apnoea was considered to increase the risk of cot death in newborn babies. A large industry developed to provide baby respiration monitors for use by anxious parents. In the 1990s, the evidence for the primary role of apnoea in cot death was challenged and discounted.
