Arterial hypertension

Arterial hypertension happens when the blood pressure in the arteries is excessive causing arterial damage. This happens when arterial pressure increases to 120-140 over 70-90 mm of mercury. In many cases, doctors cannot determine the cause of this disease. However, obesity, lack of exercise, emotional stress, salt, and the contraceptive pill are factors that increase hypertension.

Chronic alcohol consumption leads to elevation in arterial pressure. Alcohol is the third highest cause of arterial hypertension after age and body weight, and ahead of tobacco and life style.
