Antiquated provisions of the UN charter

Flaws in the charter of the United Nations, unforeseen when it was adopted, have now made it impossible for the organization to carry out the purposes for which it was intended.

The USA and the former Soviet Union jointly blocked the use of a clause in the charter that calls for periodic review of its provisions by a conference of nations.
