Age-related memory loss

  • Non-Alzheimer's related memory deficit in the elderly
  • Senile dementia
  • Mental deterioration of old age

Nature

Normal age-related memory loss is likely to involve the hippocampus, a small structure in the middle of the brain. The hippocampus is central to learning and memory. Unlike Alzheimer's disease, it is thought that the defects are caused by faulty neurotranmission rather than nerve cell death.
