Yantras

A geometric figure usually drawn on some specially consecrated material but also simply drawn in the sand or even a three-dimensional structure, a yantra has intricate symbolism which becomes intelligible in meditative absorption. As well as representing the multiple strata of the universe in time and space, the cosmogram, it also acts as a psychocosmogram, the emanation and reabsorption of the universe being reflected within each individual being. A mandala is a complex, pictorial variant of a yantra.
