Wish-dominated awareness

  • Wishful thinking

Description

In this mode of awareness a desired object or condition is visualized as being enjoyed, giving rise to pleasurable sensations and thus to reinforcement for prolonging the wish-gratifying fantasy. Children, the immature, schizoid personalities and those suffering from autistic behaviour may indulge in wishful thinking, particularly as a form of compensation for deprivation, impotence or inadequacy.
