Wajd (Sufism)

  • Ecstasy

Description

This state may be characterized by calmness, if the mystic is firm in spiritual attainments; or behaviour may be violent. The sight of God's glory is beyond rational explanation, beyond doubt and suspicion. In the most sublime presence, he may no longer be said to inhabit anywhere else in this world or outside it.

Context

This is the eleventh stage in a systematic account of various stations of the Sufi spiritual path. According to Shaykh Abu Sa'id ibn Abi'l-Khayr, it is the 29th of 40 stations or maqamat the Sufi must possess for his journey on the path of Sufism to be acceptable.
