- Psychological rapport
Description
This is a specific form of generalization when an individual perceives or interprets a present situation in terms of similar situations or experiences in the past. In psychoanalytic terms, transference involves the unconscious transfer of childhood feelings, previously held towards those with whom the individual had close emotional links (parents, siblings), to the analyst conducting the treatment. These feelings, whether positive or hostile, are contrasted with feelings which would normally arise in reaction to events and behaviour during the course of the relationship. Types of transference are generally classed as [libidinal]
