Technological implications for human evolution

Description

The rate at which computer technology has evolved has given some pointers as to the expected path for other, slower evolution. Assuming human evolution to follow a similar path, it may be expected that: continuing refinement of the human body will incorporate light into its substance, leading to faster, wider and more precise thinking; a higher proportion of the body will be devoted to storage of memory (which will be considerably expanded at all levels), including "memories" of muscles, skin, and so on, to which there will be access at will. This memory storage also includes the conscious use of the emotions for storage of thought. The speed at which comparisons may occur will lead to finer discrimination and judgement. Since direct communication will occur between persons, memory will be selective, as there will be instant access to other's memories for specialized knowledge. The senses will be used for communication of emotion rather than facts, as factual information will be retrieved via minds rather than through audio-visual stimuli. The mind will suppress sense signals which are unnecessary, the senses thus becoming more sensitive. Physical life will be longer, with "single-purpose" organs being replaced by consciously controlled multi-purpose tissue.
