Supernaturalism

Description

This may be defined as the belief that there is something, whether magical or divine, which is outside nature and in contemplation of which a sense of awe arises. It implies a power, whether evil or good, and those dealing with the power (magicians, priests) are also invested with this sense of awe, which is channelled and satisfied in traditional activity. This belief in otherworldly reality is intrinsic to all religion, whether the division between nature and supernature is considered as a broad gulf, or whether there is no real distinction between the two, the supernatural pervading all the natural.
