Striving against the soul (Islam) [H]

Description

Since the soul innately loves passions (hawa) which need to be controlled, there is a striving against the soul when one tries to harness the passions. The resistance is [sabr]

(patient endurance). Conflict between reason and passion occurs in the heart. As the five senses bring useful information to the heart they also bring what is harmful. The paths bringing worldly preoccupations have to be blocked.
