Description
Hinayana Buddhism: The goal of the second trance is to leave behind the mystical rapture (piti) which had been obtained in this stage of the jhanas. Only concentration (samadhi) and joy (sukha) are carried forward.
Tibetan Gelugpa Buddhism: This is a more advanced stage of analytical meditation in which special insights are obtained.
Context
This is one of the four form-concentrations dhyana found in Tibetan Gelugpa Buddhism.
